"Sometimes our light goes out, but is blown again into instant flame by an encounter with another human being."- Albert Schweitzer
For this Monday's quote all I have to say that when I read it, I was truly moved as it almost brought me to tears because of how interpreted this quote. This quote is so great that I will skip the introduction and just jump right into the quote. So how I interpreted this quote is when we feel awful about ourselves, or when all hope seems lost, our flame or light "goes out". However, the light or flame can be reignited once again through the help or as the quote states "encounter with another human being". So to put it simple terms when one day doesn't seem to be our day and things aren't going how they are supposed to be, there is someone who will help you through the rough time and will help to reignite the flame that was about to be blown out. Upon making this interpretation, the quote immediately became my favorite quote of all time because it helped me get back on my feet. To clarify, I was giving up hope of working hard in school and trying to achieve my goal because of so many negative thoughts that were going through my mind because of news that I discovered about my family. Unfortunately, I can't share the information for personal reasons, but the news really put in bad shape in that I didn't want to speak to anyone and I just wanted to give up on what I have worked for up until now and I just wanted to run away from everything. This depression carried on for a few weeks and at times my friends and even my teachers would notice that something was wrong with me since I was too silent and I was interacting with anyone. Eventually, I just carried on with school stuff, but I didn't the have the interest in doing it. However, one day I asked a friend if I was a failure and the answer was something I should have expected from a friend in which she replied that I was not which I felt surprised that she said that, nut at the same time it did not have any effect on me. Her words did not resonate within me until I came across this quote in which it totally broke my cage that I was in and I was free once again. Soon after that I finally was back to my old self, I wanted to give my thanks to my friend who never gave up on me and who saw me a good person and I even wanted to tell her something important, but I was nervous to tell her that I just gave her my thanks. Overall, this quote is now my favorite and I'm glad that I do this every Monday because I truly feel that these quotes have great power in that it could affect someone in great ways. Well now that I fully broke down this quote with the inclusion of a personal experience of mine, it's time to connect this quote with the IB Learner Profile. So as I can see, the part that really associates with this quote very well is caring. This quote to me seems to convey care with its meaning since if one person is losing person all hope, one person that truly cares for them is there to pick them right back up. Also, this can work the other way in which someone you know is going through rough times and seems like all hope is lost to them and there are willing to give up, but knowing that you truly care for them, you help them get through it. Eventually doing this can lead to being knowledgeable which another part of the profile in which you know about someone's behavior and know when they are going through a bad time so you can do something to help them. To me honestly, these two components of the profile seem to really part of the quote and I'm glad that these two components are part of the IB Learner profile because we truly learn about someone through the bond that people share with each other. Well this will conclude this week's Mindfulness Monday and to be honest, I feel way better in sharing this with others in the hope people will be inspired to help others when they are going through a rough time. Other than that, until next Monday.
